Music review: Gabriela Montero’s sound is sumptuous and luscious

The Venezuelan pianist is renowned for her spectacular musicianship and virtuosity and for keeping the lost art of classical improvisation alive. She’s also unusually outspoken on social media, openly criticizing her native country’s violent governing regime and exposing the more nefarious outcomes of el Sistema, Venezuela’s famous program of musical education for the masses.
